Visions give me a sense of my former self, a German Frontsoldat, serving on the Western Front during the Great War of 1914-1918. I died at Verdun in 1916. To pay respect to my former self I translate these visions into a dialect that both tells his story as well as my own, and is readable for you, the spectator.
In 2016 I created Oskar von Balz. A graphic novel protagonist situated in an alternative universe. In this universe, my hometown of Scheveningen is ruled by World War 1 German soldiers. Because of an investigation error surrounding Oskar von Balz, a war breaks out. Oskar decides to flee but finds himself back on Scheveningen by fate.
I will publish a limited first edition of the Oskar von Balz Tagebuch. The book will have the first 60 pages of what I see as the ongoing Tagebuch Oskar von Balz Manuscript.
This first edition will consist of just 40 hand-bound, hard cover copies, each in their own case.
Both the book and the case have hand-drawn and hand-printed elements. Expected release date is August 2019!
You can already pre-order your own hand-bound Oskar von Balz Tagebuch. By pre-ordering, you not only secure your copy but also support me in the process. Next to the hard cover book in case, you will also receive an extra surprise in the case.
